Golf Experience

The KOR Delivers the Total Golf Improvement Experience to Golfer's in the Beaverton and Portland Area

The KOR Golf Instruction and Fitness ProgramEvery golfer has their own individual deficits. These deficits will limit the golfer’s potential on the course and contribute to their overall wellness (or lack of).  Some facts:

FACT: 75% of all golfers experience low back pain, the #1 reported injury

FACT: The golf swing produces forces up to 8x’s the body's weight through the spine (a 200 lb. person will experience 1,600 lbs. of pressure through their back during every golf shot)

FACT: Decreased hip and shoulder motion can cause injury in the back

And, for those of you who want to hit like the Pros, keep in mind that Professional golfers generate 34% greater club head speed while reducing muscle activity by 50%. They are more efficient than us normal Joes. Through The KOR's Total Golf Improvement Experience, we'll get you on the road to building a better game with improved golf conditioning and instruction.

Christopher Smith, PGA Teaching Professional at The KORSix Weeks to a Better Golf Game Through Expert Instruction and Golf-Driven Conditioning

Sharpen your short game and split more fairways with eight hours of one-on-one coaching and instruction from Christopher Smith, lead PGA Instructor at The KOR and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

  •  An initial full swing assessment and video analysis in the cutting-edge sports studio at The KOR. Using machine-vision high speed cameras linked to JC Video software, crystal clear frame-by-frame and slow motion playback helps to clarify swing motions and positions, to help enhance learning. In addition, club head and golf balls speed numbers are gathered, for reference throughout the program.

  • A 9-hole “playing evaluation” and summary at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. Under Christopher’s watchful eye, the student is observed in warm-up and on course, in an actual playing and scoring environment (as opposed to driving range/practice ground conditions), for 9-holes.  A written summary is provided afterwards, equipping the golfer with a detailed road map for overall golf improvement. A critical element in better golf performance!
  • Three, one-hour sessions at either Pumpkin Ridge or the KOR.  Focusing on individual and specific areas of need, these sessions are geared to bring the golfer’s weaknesses “up to par,” while helping students learn what and how to practice to expedite change. At the final appointment, club head and golf ball speed numbers will again be taken to compare with original findings.

Each participant in the KOR Golf Experience will receive a copy of Christopher’s book, I’ve Got 99 Swing Thoughts but ‘Hit the Ball’ Ain’t One, and his neuroscience-based CD, Better Golf.

The KOR Total Golf Improvement Experience

Part 2: Become a Stronger, More Consistent Player.

The KOR's golf performance training program includes 12 (1 on 1) sessions with a physical therapist over the 6 week period and includes the evaluation and the performance sessions. We will work on the six principles listed below and at the end of the 6 weeks, the client will have  a comprehensive  custom program that they can continue independently, whether at the gym or home.

Our six principles to golf wellness are:

  • Identify your deficits. The strength of any program is only as good as the assessment. Our examination and assessment are based on research that looks at strength and mobility of the shoulder, trunk and hip while also looking at the body’s overall control mechanisms. We know exactly how much force you can generate in specific muscles and where you may be at risk for injury and power leaks. We can also assess how well you can control your body and relate it to your golf swing.

  • Improve your balance. The most important first step is to increase your balance and control. Frequently, this is a significant impairment in most athletes and a huge limiting factor. Without a high level of control of the neuromuscular system, you will also be limited with your swing. The KOR Total Golf Improvement Experience

  • Smooth your weight shiftBy working on the neuromuscular control and incorporating certain drills we are able to help you increase your potential for a smoother weight shift, while still generating more force. This can help increase your yardage off the tee and help with consistency.

  • Increase the strength of your hip musclesYour hip muscles are where the majority of your power is generated and unfortunately is also the weakest muscle group in the majority of people. This weakness translates into decreased power and increased risk of injury in the legs and back.

  • Increase the endurance of your trunk musclesThis is another area where most people fail. While “core strength” is a phrase that has been used frequently in our society for the last 10 years, current research has pointed to the fact that core/trunk endurance is what actually reduces low back pain and increase power. The reason is that our trunk muscles are made up of primarily slow twitch (type I) muscle fiber and if you do not work on increasing the endurance of these muscles, you will fade towards the end of the round and increase your risk of low back pain.

  • Increase the strength and mobility of your shoulderLast but not least is to increase the strength and mobility of the shoulders. If these muscles are weak or the joints are stiff, you will lose distance and end up putting more strain on your low back and shoulder joints. These muscles are frequently weak in female golfers and are part of the reason why there are more injuries of the upper body in LPGA golfers as compared to the PGA Tour or Champions Tour.

Price for this six-week comprehensive golf improvement program: $1,995
